What are ceramic frying pans?

A ceramic pan is a pan with a layer of ceramic on the inside, this layer forms the non-stick coating. You use the pan differently than a pan with a standard non-stick coating.

Certain frying pans with a standard (Teflon) non-stick coating have the unpleasant property that at high temperatures (260 degrees C) a toxic substance called PFOA is released. These gases are deadly for small pets including birds and very bad for humans and possibly carcinogenic. Another nasty feature is that after a while, pieces of Teflon can come loose from an older/worn pan, which is of course also very detrimental to your health.

A ceramic frying pan, the healthy frying pan!

A ceramic frying pan is the solution for people who are concerned about their health and the environment. The ceramic pan has many advantages over the Teflon pan. Apart from the fact that they do not contain harmful substances, a ceramic frying pan is much healthier. This way you don't have to use as much butter or oil as the ceramic pan hardly sticks. This means you consume much less fat, which is of course much healthier. Meat often contains enough fat, so you can get started right away without adding oil or butter. So you cook the meat in its own fat. You can even fry an egg without using oil or butter.

Maintenance

However, in order to maintain the ceramic non-stick coating properly, it is important that you handle it with care. We recommend that you do not put a frying pan with a ceramic non-stick coating in the dishwasher. Thanks to the non-stick coating, these pans do not stick or stick, so you never have to scrub hard.

The following tips will guarantee the maximum lifespan of your ceramic frying pans:

  1. First of all allow the frying pan to cool sufficiently before you start cleaning. However, the longer you leave the pan, the more oil residue or shortening will stick.
  2. Remove any oil residue or shortening . After the frying pan has cooled, it is recommended to carefully wipe off any excess oil or fat with a dry tissue. If something is caked on, we recommend that you add a dash of cleaning vinegar to the pan and then fill it with boiling water. After soaking for a while, the oil or fat residues will come off naturally.
  3. Soak the pan in warm dishwater
It is sufficient to fill the sink with warm water and a mild dishwashing liquid, that's all you need to clean a ceramic frying pan.
  4. Wipe the pan clean, without scrubbing
It is strongly not recommended to scrub in the pan. This causes damage to the ceramic non-stick coating and can even result in the non-stick coating coming loose. We also recommend using wooden spatulas/spoons and soft sponges.

A ceramic non-stick coating makes both cooking and washing up easy, and ceramic frying pans also have a longer lifespan! A ceramic frying pan is therefore a healthy and ecological solution!
